potato
I haven't made a post with any decent substance in ages (all whining about work and... whining about work. And some book log posts). So here we go, for everyone who cares (if anyone cares).

-On the working out front, I've been doing pretty good I think! I'm going Fridays and Sundays and I'm going to try out going Wednesday after work this week, but may end up going after dinner instead. I kind of wish I could motivate myself enough to get up early and go before work but to hell with that. I didn't ride the bike today, either, mainly because I really wish I'd taken a break yesterday and didn't, and I have kind of felt like crap all day (unrelated to not having taken a break yesterday, though... I hope it's just allergies and I'm not getting sick, but I've had a sore throat and been sneezing constantly all day). I haven't been doing so well with not eating just for the sake of eating, though. When I'm bored at work, I tend to get the munchies. The obvious solution to this would be to not bring food to work, of course.

-On the cosplay front, uh, I should've worked on it a bunch this weekend and DID NOT. Because I suck. I'm just about done doing all the pattern modifications I think I need to do, though, so as soon as I do one more test and to make sure the sleeves are going to be okay I'll be able to start cutting out the real fabric, and after that I should have an easier time with my initial plan of working on it a bit every day (because sewing is the easy part) (I hope). I'm not working on Shino at all for another month at least, to see if I get anywhere at all in becoming not fat.

-Concerning school, I pulled off an A in both 5000 and 5600, phew (you know, I just remembered I never told Mom that so be right back). I have, like, no grades recorded in Children's Lit, though, so I dunno WTF happened there. Gonna email my professor about it soon, I think? Beyond that, I have like one million books to read for Multicultural lit (which starts the 18th, not the 15th as I previously thought!) (one million is actually six because I've already read ten). I wish I hadn't signed up for a Maymester class but TOO LATE NOW. Over the summer I am taking something and Graphic Novels and Comics, for which I have to read a bunch of stuff I have already read and Watchmen, which I still have no desire to read but now have to. She wants us to read one non-fiction graphic novel so I'm totally rereading Fun Home!

-As for work, I thought Bruce's extended vacation would be FUN PARTY TIME but it has turned out to be not so much. I can't wait until he's back next week even if that means oppression and tyranny. I also had FINALLY CAUGHT UP on my cataloguing so of course several boxes of children's and adult stuff came in today. And I have not even touched it yet between finishing up Bonnie's relabeling projects of doom, going through fifty thousand donations (who the hell even reads Reader's Digest Condensed Books, and why do people keep donating enormous collections of them to the library?), trying to figure out why the CD burner ate disc 4 of Pride and Prejudice (edit: actually the disc is okay!) and then trying to figure out why it wasn't working in general, and... what else did I do today? Oh yes, I talked about Star Trek a whole lot (was that work?). And as previously mentioned I felt like shit through the entire process.

-Speaking of Star Trek, awesome, and I'm seeing it again with Dad on Friday because IMAX STAR TREK. Should make me deliciously motion sick. I cannot wait!

-And apropos of nothing, on Thursday I am going with Ali to game with her buddies. It's actually kind of intimidating because I am a super noob and her gaming buddies have been doing it for ages. We're playing Exalted, a game I have never heard of and am attempting to educate myself on as quickly as possible. XDD Should be fun. Especially as they start at 6:00 and, um, that's when I normally get off work. So I'm going to attempt a half hour lunch so I can get off at 5:30 instead. Whee. Will also starve.

THAT'S ALL.

Oh goodness an LJ post

Apparently I am too busy posting on Twitter fifty times a day to post over here anymore.

Things I did this week:
-Freaked the hell out over school, then stopped caring (although these incidents were really separate... I freaked out over 5420, having realized Sunday night that the assignment I had turned in Friday was not the one that was actually due and I hadn't done the one that was actually due, and then I decided I didn't actually care very much about the fourth reading set assignment in 5600)

-Returned to my roaming around the library habits rather than really working (breaking your foot really puts a crimp in your slacking off, I swear)

-Worked also, somehow, at the same time (I hope to catch up on my cataloging on Monday... I'd have done it most of the rest of it today but Bruce had to show Ziba and I fifty thousand things before he trucks off to Europe for three weeks).

-Read some books (shock!, and more on this of course on Sunday with my Book Log) ([info]sailormgm I promise I will tell you what I thought of City of Bone then) (am slightly shocked I actually remembered the title; I've been calling it City of Whatever or City of Thing mostly e_e)

-Acquired and put together freakishly tall bookshelves from IKEA. The second topper thing was totally missing pieces and IKEA was like "Well, you can drive up here with your receipt and we'll give them to you" but I declined their offer because it takes a damn hour to get there. Instead I spent $10 getting the pieces (screw things and cam things) from Lowe's and Home Depot. I just now finally put the shelves on the shelves (hurhur) but I've been feeling kind of woozy all day and am not shifting the huge book pile in there to put on them just yet.

Um, that's basically all I've done this week. Maybe the other reason I haven't been posting is because I am so boring. That's what I get for going to grad school.

The new best set of subject headings

Some of these dippy paranormal romances or whatever you want to call them are really fun to come up with subject headings for. So this one:

Vampires--Fiction
Phantom of the Opera (Fictitious character)--Fiction
Dracula, Count (Fictitious character)--Fiction
Sex therapists--Fiction

The sex therapist is also a super-amazing soldier but I can't think of a good way to add that in... Or rather I can't think of an amusing way to add it in, because "Women soldiers" is such a boring subject heading. Too bad there isn't a "Mary Sue" heading. And I think the book also has werewolves but I'm not reading it to find out for sure (also it deeply disappoints me that the LC heading for that is "Werewolves" and not "Lycanthropy").

GRADUAL WEIGHT BEARING

library
I probably should have gone back to work since I got out of the doctor's at 4:30 but I am a hobo and I didn't. :D Since Shelley told me I didn't have to write an exception for lunch I only have an hour and forty-five minutes to make up, and with the storytime Friday it should be no problem. I'll just hang around a bit at work afterwards.

But that's not important.

What's important is that my foot is in fact healing (what a shock). I am not 100% off crutches yet, but the doctor said I can start only using one in the next few days and within a week I can stop using them altogether. I obviously shouldn't be dancing or anything but YAY! Gradual weight bearing!

The thing is I'm almost afraid to actually walk on it. XD Having been careful of it all this time and now learning that my efforts have been rewarded, I cannot help but fear that by walking on it I will ruin everything somehow.

On the topic of TLA... I got to ride around on a stupid scooter. Photo of me on said scooter will be forthcoming as I left the camera in my car (along with two bags full of ARCs and free books). When Dad gets home I'll ask him to bring the stuff in for me (I got him a present so he can't possibly refuse, right?).

The best part of the conference, though, is that the people at the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers booth gave me ARCs of the first two Haruhi novels! I'll definitely be buying them anyway, as I want the hardback versions, but the ARC will tide me over until I can get to the bookstore. And the ARC of the second one will tide me over until the second one comes out (I'm not even sure when that is? XD). I don't know if the hardback version has a different cover but I kind of really like the ARC cover... very simplistic and appealing without screaming "I AM AN ANIME BOOK!" like so many light novel translations do (I could rant about this all day, but I won't).

So thanks, Little, Brown booth staff! You guys are awesome. Slightly more awesome than the Gaylord guy who bestowed a hedgehog puppet upon Ali for no reason (though you should never scoff at a gift from the Gaylord). People at library conventions are very nice. This is your lesson for today: if you want to talk to really nice people go to library conventions. Also if you want piles of free books. Though I am really sad that they were out of the audiobook of Wintergirls at, um, whatever booth that was (I guess I only remember booths that give me stuff). Also I am sad I could not get that interesting book about Neil Gaiman's works at whatever booth that was (I even tried to trade Ali for it).

Okay now I am going to finish my info hunts and evaluations I SWEAR and then read Haruhi (I started it in the doctor's office and they've stayed very true to Kyon's voice so far!).

What a sentence. Six commas and an em dash...

A post about things.

Aaaah~~

I'm actually feeling really chatty right now but no one's around on AIM so I am making an LJ post instead. I haven't made any posts with real content in a while, have I? Do you guys remember when I used to make huge blathery posts every day? XD

Now I have no time to make LJ posts. This has been a totally exhausting week. I'm behind on my schedule of homework and shit, too... I overestimated what I could do during the week pretty badly, and I barely had time to do even half of what I wanted to do. So today I mostly was playing catch up instead of doing what I wanted to do today. But I did a pretty good job catching up, and all I haven't done of today's stuff is read Midnight for Charlie Bone (decided to put that one off because I don't want to read it at all) and my article critique for 5000. Ah, and I didn't start on my info hunt like I wanted to, but that's not due for a few more weeks so I'm not really concerned with that. I didn't read my 5420 textbook #2, either, but... I kind of have no intention of reading that at all now. I started reading it and it is completely retarded. 5420 textbook #1 is extremely interesting and was a lot of fun to read, but the other book is patronizing and talks about young adults like they aren't even human, or alternately like they're impressionable morons incapable of forming opinions of their own. It seems to be written from the perspective of someone who has never seen a teenager, only heard of them.

Tomorrow I'm sure I won't do everything I had planned... for one I forgot to get any Goosebumps from work and I don't remember if I still have any of the ones I had when I was a kid. For sure I have to do my summary for Reading Set I for 5600 (most of today was doing that reading... I thought it was just articles, but I actually had to read several chapters of my textbook for that class, which is a pretty boring book and also really dated) (actually I hate to think of it as dated because it's not even ten years old, but with how much things have changed in the past ten years it really is...). That's due next Wednesday and like hell I'm doing it during the week. I also want to start on the Info Hunt for sure, and get everything done on it that I can do with what I've got around the house. And do my article critique for 5000 that I didn't do today. I'll probably skip out on looking for sources... save that for a day I have less to do.

But I'm also going shopping with Mom and Dad, which always takes all morning. Urrgh I want to sleep all day. That's what Saturdays are for. I had to get up early this morning to go to get my oil changed (a month overdue as ever) and of course I had to get up early all week and I just want to laze around in bed all day. As it is I'm probably going to go to bed early so I at least get a decent amount of sleep. I feel like I haven't in a while, though that's not entirely true. I also kind of wanted to see Coraline tomorrow but since I'll be out all morning I think I should spend the afternoon working on homework instead. And I am not seeing that movie unless it's a matinee because tickets for the evening shows are freaking $11 because it's 3D. Ugh. More reasons to hate 3D movies... Of course it's only one one screen because of that, too. I might wait a couple of weeks for it, in the end. I'd be way more gung-ho about seeing it if it weren't 3D...

Now that I think about it, I don't even remember if I really explained here about having Fridays off now... Bruce (my boss at work) really loves the idea of four day weeks and offers to let everyone in his department do that if they want. I originally was skeptical, thinking "Like hell I want to work ten hours every day!" but after considering and looking at my course load, I realized that having an extra day off to do things would be super nice. And really, it's so awesome to me to think that by merely coming in an hour earlier and leaving an hour later every day I get an entire day off! I like my job, so working ten hours actually just flies by (though the morning drags a bit... Mostly because I got used to doing all my morning tasks and it being ten already. Now I finish by nine). Although it's been kind of slow at work lately anyway. I wish I hadn't blown through that enormous backlog so quickly, but at work whenever I'm faced with an enormous workload I automatically go into double time to get it done ASAP. I did it with shelving and I do it now.

Talking a little more about work, when I was a page I had a decidedly different impression of Bruce than I do now. He's kind of crazy, but he's mostly crazy in a good way. Even though it's probably mean, I do get a kick out of listening to him bait the old ladies. Does this make me a horrible person? As nutty as he can be, though, he really does know his stuff. On Wednesday I ran out of things to do (as ever) and so I was just sitting there while he went through the things I catalogued to see if I'd done things wrong, and I was extremely amused that most of them were okay. XD (Most of the ones that were really screwy were from Monday when I abruptly received some terrifying news in the middle of doing the romances and couldn't keep my mind on things... I'll probably talk more about that at some point but I'm not ready to share it with the entire world quite yet.) It's fun listening to him babble about cataloguing stuff, really. I think I'm probably crazy too.

In other news, I got a new TV today. e_e I was going to wait a while, but Dad got to talking about getting a new one for them and suddenly I just couldn't take it anymore. XD I had to have a TV. That I'm never going to have any time to use. I got a 32" Samsung LCD HDTV. It is shiny and huge compared to my old one. My only complaint about it is that SD stuff does really not look that great on it (at least, .hack doesn't) and the sound quality varies depending on what you're doing (it's really nice for the PS3, but when I'm using the PS2 it sounds like someone's sitting on the speakers). I'll think about getting some external speakers in a month or so, probably. Really what I'm most happy about is that I can hook Sir II up to the thing! :DDD Now I want to actually do the weekly viewing parties that I was thinking about starting before I traded computers, but... if I do that, it won't be until next month at the earliest, once I've gotten a good chunk of schoolwork out of the way.

That's about all I have to say! I think that I'm going to sleep now. Or at least I'm going to crawl into bed and read some more of The Westing Game. (Oh yeah, I also got a new blanket because it's been pretty cold at night the past week... it is SUPER soft and warm and... Disney Princesses. I am such a six year old.)

Poop I just remembered I'd meant to go to the bank today. And... also I'd meant to mail the utilities bill for Mom. I hope someone else took care of that. e_e

(EDIT: Wow this really is long. Sorry for the wall of text... actually I'm not, but I'll pretend to be if you want me to.)

2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, a word etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favourite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must should post this in your LJ!

I don't even remember if I mentioned it at all here and am too lazy to check, as ever, but yesterday was the first day of my "Web Institute" classes (which are basically just all-day seminar-type things to accompany two of the classes I'm taking this semester... the rest of the classes are online). Yesterday was SLIS5000, which was boring as shit and I wish I'd brought my laptop. Today started SLIS5600, which is INFORMATION OVERLOAD though today was mostly just intro stuff. And I did bring my laptop. I have two more days of this... then I have to work all week. Woe is me.

Today in SLIS5600 we had to form groups for our final projects, and since we also had to form groups in 5000 and all five of us were in both classes, we decided to just keep the same group. For some reason, we had to name our group, so we are the "Reference Renegades." Other team names include things like:
Bibliosaurus Rex
Library Princesses
The (in)Famous Five

Everyone in this class is a nerd. But I mean that in the best way possible!

I'm already starting to regret taking eight hours this semester... it's going to be pretty crazy. I'm glad I got a head start on my reading for Children's Lit, at least. Though I keep meeting people who have already taken it and are all "Oh, you don't actually have to read everything!" and I am like "But... I want to!" I've been kind of ignoring that class the past few days because of the Web Institute, though. Except for reading, anyway. I still haven't gotten to start Last Watch. T_T

In other news, starting next week I'm going to be working four day weeks to give myself a nice three-day weekend to work on schoolwork (and also to do other thrilling things like go to the doctor! Though I am actually terrified of going to the doctor right now because I really don't understand how my insurance works... But I really need to see a dermatologist. I also need to make a dentist appointment but I'm on a different insurance for dental and I don't have an insurance card for that or anything? I think on Wednesday I am going over to HR no matter what, because I have a bunch of things I need to ask them). 7-6 Monday-Thursday! Oh yeah! Really I like my job enough that I'm not going to have a problem with working ten hour days. I only hate my job when I'm bored, and that's mainly on Fridays when Bruce isn't around to find me something else to do! Even with all the jobs he's given me, last Friday I still ended up with two hours or so that I couldn't think of a single damn thing to occupy myself with. :/

Also, Ali, it looks like Tuesday's class actually ends between 3-4 so I should be at Japanese no problem. :D I need to do my writing thing, though, now that I have my book...

I don't remember the other thing I was going to say so I am going to go take a shower, finish Crispin: the Cross of Lead, and go to bed.

Work work work work

My desk at work. Thrills! This was taken right before I left on Friday. The cart on the left is things I'm working on cataloguing. Actually those weren't even there until right before I left... it's been pretty desolate.
The pile of stuff on the right side of the desk are a bunch of JBCDs (children's audiobooks for those of you who don't know Helen Hall-ese). Bruce lets me listen to my iPod while I'm working, so I just realized I can load up some audiobooks on it and read while I work, thrills. Or be read to. Whatever. So I checked those out to rip.
Beneath my desk you can see my cute little space heater, aka my best friend in the entire world. I've started just letting it go on full blast like all the time. I point it under my desk and the heat comes up through the opening at the back of the keyboard tray and keeps my hands warm. So delightful!

I haven't yet gotten over the fact that I have my own desk, by the way. XD I don't know why it delights me so much but it does.

Work has actually been really incredibly boring lately, but that's primarily my own fault. Apparently I just do my work too fast? Or something? Bruce hasn't actually said anything to me about this, but from what other people have told me he's said and the way he's always like "What? You need something else to do?" when I tell him I've finished my work leaves me to this conclusion. As a result I'm left doing any number of mind-numbing tasks. Friday I spent bringing up reports of items with wrong categories and types (such as fiction books that were entered as nonfiction, children's stuff entered as adult... that sort of thing) and fixing all those. Mostly that meant copy-pasting item IDs for like six hours. Interrupted occasionally by changing the DVDs out in the monster of a disc cleaner we have (it takes fifty discs at once and I can do two batches in a day!) that Bruce has put me in charge of because of my, uh, copious free time or whatever.

I'm glad at least that I have some things to catalogue come Tuesday (Monday's a holiday!). I shall attempt to take forever doing them. Though more than likely I'll be volunteered to go help out in circ as they get really backed up after holidays (not that I mind helping, and really time flies when you're checking things in).

Here's one more photo of Technical Services in general )

I've started referring to tech services as "The Ice Cave," btw, as it remains constantly freezing in there. Bruce occasionally calls it the "meat locker" but I think Ice Cave is a bit more romantic than that. Though I really do think you could leave a hunk of raw meat on the counter in there for a week and it wouldn't spoil a bit...

$
Today was the big day... while technically I won't get my money until tomorrow as I have direct deposit and tomorrow is actually payday, they always hand out checks/pay stubs on the day before payday. So I was eagerly awaiting mine to see how much it was going to be!

And... they paid me at my old pay rate. When I was a page I was making $8 an hour, now I'm making $12.40, but they paid me $8 an hour. Ugh. And of course it's too late to do anything about it now, so I won't get the rest of my money until next paycheck. Oh well... It doesn't really change any of my plans, anyway. But it is really annoying.

In other news, I finished the Death Note novel. LOL plot twist at the end there. I can't really say much about it without spoiling it, though. But I did crack up at the very end, over the sexual harassment thing. Oh, Misora. Too bad you die later. We've actually got the entire series of Death Note at work now (well... it's sitting in tech because no one wants to deal with the graphic novels, or rather I wouldn't mind dealing with them but Bruce doesn't want to deal with them so he won't show me how... once I know how to catalogue the things, they'll get catalogued a lot faster, I promise). I think I'm probably going to re-read it. I hardly even remember the beginning anymore.

Somewhat related, but is anyone else besides Ali reading Ohba and Obata's new series, Bakuman? It's about a pair of guys who are trying to create a hit manga. Of course they're trying to get their manga in Shonen Jump (because of course it's a SJ manga)... It's pretty awesome, though. Hilarious, and fun to read... also very interesting from a learning how manga gets made standpoint, I guess. The actual premise is way more ridiculous than I just said. XD Anyway, it's on OneManga, so whether you liked Death Note or not you should check it out. I think.

Only Ali will care, but I keep playing .hack while I eat dinner... except I don't feel like actually going off and doing the next story thing (because the trend is to make me go to dungeons and those take too long). So I've just been running around working on getting everyone's affection to max, which means I'm just dragging random people out to areas. Mostly areas way too high level. As a result, I (I being Haseo and Atoli, really, who are almost level 140 while mostly everyone else is still below 130) am probably like fifteen levels higher than the game expects me to be right now... whoops.

And only Zoë will care, but... just how is Anton supposed to live there with no toilets? Is there a toilet in the apartment with no door that he can use? XD

Now I am going to bed super early.

Several things in this post

I don't feel like taking any photos of my "loot" or any such thing... XD But I'll at least list it:
-Two JoAnn's gift cards (one from Gayle at work and one from Mom and Dad)
-Santa figurine from Martha
-Bag of cinnamon scented stuff from Rosalie (???)
-Gigantic Nerds lip balm from Jenny
-$40 from Grandmom
-Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories from Mom and Dad

And, shockingly Mom and Dad also got me a Webkinz gecko and a pack of trading cards. XD I never thought my Webkinz habit would be supported in this way. This makes 21 pets in-game and 19 out (I have one virtual pet and Chauncey the eagle is really Dad's).

Now I will talk about my new job, since my first week of work has been over since 2PM yesterday (very short first week but that is fine by me...)

Basically I am a cataloger. This means I have the oh-so-thrilling job of entering books into our SIRSI database. Though really it's mostly me thieving bibliographical records from elsewhere and tweaking them as needed. XD As Bruce said, we at Helen Hall Library are "lazy cataloguers" and vastly prefer to mooch off someone else's work.

Explaining cataloguing is too complicated and weird, but Bruce keeps asking me if my head has exploded yet for a good reason. There is a lot of stuff to know. And every time I ask him a question about what I'm doing he finds like six other things I did wrong... which keeps making me second guess myself ("did I do that wrong on all of these records?") but whatever. I've only been doing this for two days (as my first day on the job I was instead reboxing DVDs while Bruce finished getting things set up... I can't wait until we have a tech page so she can do that shit).

So really a fine explanation of my job is I sit on my ass for eight hours a day getting paid $12.40 an hour to click on things and type a little. And stick spine labels on. OH BOY. Though it's at least nice that I can listen to my iPod or whatever while I'm working. It is less nice that it is always FREEZING COLD in technical services. I blame the server room's close proximity, or something. This weekend I will be acquiring a small space heater to stick under my desk and a pair of fingerless gloves for sure. And a thermometer so I can see just how bad it really is. I think it was below 60 back there yesterday, though. The skin beneath my fingernails was turning blue.

It's going to be fun when I actually take my cataloguing class at UNT. XDD I should be well ahead of the game by then.

I can't wait until January! I'll be starting grad school! I'll be finally joining Ali's Japanese class! I'll be able to go to the doctor (when I dunno since I will be working full time and have no vacation until June! I guess I should ask how sick leave works for stuff like that... I don't think I get any paid sick leave until my vacation kicks in but I need to confirm this because I was told an awful lot of stuff and cannot remember it all). I am totally going to the doctor next time I get that weird toe numbness, though, because I so delight in the puzzled look on my doctor's face whenever I tell her any of my problems. e_e; (The feeling did mostly come back in that toe, if anyone's wondering, but not completely... and it went completely numb along with some of the rest of the bottom of my foot while we were at Onicon on Friday evening, and stayed that way all night and into Saturday before I noticed that I could feel again sometime in the afternoon.)

EDIT: Oh yeah and NO MORE WORKING WEEKENDS AWESOOOOME though to be honest I rather like having days during the week off instead of weekends off because that means I can run errands and shit without dealing with weekend crowds... XD I have the option of working a four day week, actually, which I might end up doing after I've gotten used to the job, and then I'd have three day weekends which would make up for that.

Sudden developments

!! 2
Like, all of a sudden I have a job!

That is to say that Technical Services Clerk position I applied for way back when is mine starting Monday. FULL TIME JOB holy crap. I'm a real member of the working world! I'm getting health insurance, crazy.

While this development is pretty awesome, I also have to go get a physical, uh, today. What the heck, like I have time for that... I have a costume to finish. D:

Also when am I going to get my eyebrows waxed. I dunno.

Oh, yeah, [info]bakemonokun... because of this, it looks like our, um, vaguely planned January rendezvous will have to be postponed. I don't get vacation for six months. :(

A good thing I'm not going to A-kon next year. I'll have vacation by the time AnimeFest rolls around, at least!

Anyway, lunch, then off to this clinic to get prodded at. I hope they do not mind my super hairy legs. Also I hope there is no one there and it goes really fast.

The place we were going to do the shoot got pretty heavily hurricaned, but we found an even nicer place in Friendswood that escaped severe damage/has already been cleaned up (though until it rains again everything there will be covered in dirt, whoo).

Totally looking forward to it. I am also finally gluing my leg armor back together, ahurhur I forgot about that. Using E-6000 this time so it won't fall apart on me and I won't be too afraid to walk.

In other cosplay-related news, I don't know if I mentioned here but Jenny roped Ali and I into doing a cosplay program at work. It will probably suck, but that's okay. We don't really expect anyone to show up anyway. It's on Friday, 4:30-5:45, at Helen Hall Library (obviously), in the Children's Theater. If you want, show up and make fun of us. I'll be wearing Yin and Ali'll be wearing Emeraldas to make it extra special. Also there will be pizza.

Things... actually went pretty well, thanks to my genius! As much as I didn't want to be in charge, I dread what would have happened had I not been in charge. XD And the books are staying down all weekend, so I will be here Monday for the returning to the shelves efforts (also probably a good thing... there will be a lot of me yelling at people involved here, I think, and in this case I'll probably want a small crew that'll be easier to supervise).

Of course I forgot to bring my camera so only two crappy cell phone photos of the chaos. )

There's a slim chance I might stop in while I'm out today and take some better photos, but more than likely I'll just bring my camera Sunday. It'll probably be an even bigger mess by then, once the painters have come in.

PS- Thanks to [info]unexplored, [info]a_commonplace, [info]liberrylady, among others, who got to help!

Page Crisis

thumbs up
My camera came back a day early! And seems to be actually FIXED this time! HOORAY!

In other news, our new page is starting tomorrow. Her name is Bethel. I can finally remember it. I don't actually know if that's how it's spelled, though. Hahaha! Fun thing is that Gayle's not actually going to be in until 5:00 so I get to pretend to be her for a while, because we wanted her to start before I go on my birthday vacation (I had my birthday as a floater so I'm taking Friday off... three day weekend; hurrah!).

And great timing, too, because... now Ryan is quitting. And I dunno how much longer I will be paging. Yippee! Have fun with this, Ali!
At least summer's almost over. I think that they should keep Jeffery in Children's until Ryan is replaced and then Ali can stay in Circ until I am replaced, but that would make sense and I am sure we cannot do anything that makes sense. It's against city policy.

Okay, dinner. And I almost forgot Sarah is coming over tonight. Good thing we didn't decide to see Batman this evening... We're finally watching Antique Bakery!

Book Log and Employment

reading2
First off, book log update. I've been reading more manga than anything else lately, though, so this looks pretty pathetic...
-Alex and the Ironic Gentleman by Adrienne Kress (This book was either awesome or terrible... I've still not settled on which.)
-Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi by Rob MacGregor
-Mad Kestrel by Misty Massey
-Dragon and Liberator by Timothy Zahn (An unsatisfactory end to a series I never really liked in the first place...)
-Black Swan, White Raven, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling
-Snow White, Blood Red, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling

The last two there are both collections of fairy tale retellings. They're really wonderful. There's actually an entire series, of which Black Swan is the fourth and Snow White is the first. I've got the second out right now as well but haven't read it yet. I'll have to go over to Freeman to get the third, fifth, and sixth ones, though.

At the moment I'm halfway through the first book of The Twelve Kingdoms, by Fuyumi Ono. I for some reason (well, I know why) resisted watching the anime adaptation of this when it was really big a few years back, but we had the book at work so I finally gave in and picked it up. And I love it. Absolutely love it. It actually reminds me of a much more mature version of Brave Story (and I don't mean mature in the R-rated sense, just... Brave Story was very childish compared to this book). I only started it this morning and I'm already over halfway through. I may even finish it tonight. We've got book two on-order right now, so I've put a hold on it... I might end up buying it, though, because I'm not sure I want to wait.

Other than that I'm trying to finally finish the two sequels to Sorcery and Cecelia. Which reminds me I really ought to be writing letters...

Anyway, I'm now up to, uh, 45 books read this year. Almost halfway to my goal for the year!

In other news, I finally talked to Bruce today about Kaye's job, seeing as she's leaving this Thursday. Good news is that I'm perfectly qualified for it, and it does sound like a job I'd love (entering data into computers endlessly!!!). The job description hasn't been finalized yet, so it's not gotten posted yet, but I got a transfer form from Gayle so the minute the posting shows up I'll be turning that in to Shelly.
The bad news is that Gayle also told me two of the full-time Circ people want the job as well. She wouldn't tell me who, though, probably because I was making jokes about bumping them off to reduce the competition (you can only say "I'm kidding!" so many times before it's clear you're really not). I know it's not Judy or Rachel, though, which leaves who? Martha for one, and, um, I refuse to believe it's Rosalie. ¬_¬ Unless it really is Rachel and she was just faking encouragement. SUSPICIONS RISING. Okay. Whatever, I'm just going to give it my best. Bruce seemed pleased that I was interested, and he also said I was the first person to actually talk to him about it so that's good, right?

Also Gayle's pretty sure the job starts at $12.75 an hour, plus I'd get extra pay for having a degree when I don't need one for the job AND longevity pay. And insurance. I'm not really looking forward to working full-time, but at least it's a job that I think I'll like? I need to really get cracking on cosplay shit, though, because if I get the job obviously my free time will be severely diminished (though I'd have weekends off completely, yay! And hardly anyone in tech works Fridays) (which will be good for AnimeFest, because getting days off as soon as you're hired is never easy, even if I'm not technically a new hire).

Wish me luck!

Okay, before I made that previous post I was trying to make a post about work...

So yesterday Gayle was like "SURPRISE INTERVIEW!!!" and I was like "What."

There were also ten thousand new books and twenty thousand CDs and fifty thousand DVDs. My day went:
-DVDs
-New books
-Interview
-CDs
-Audio books
-DVDs
-New books

As a result of that, when I got there today there was a wall of fiction. Like every possible gap in the fiction presort was filled, books on top of books, etc, etc. And this is a Thursday, when I only have two and a half hours to shelve. Sooo I got new books done and did one cartload of fiction, which barely put a dent in all that shit, but Gayle wouldn't let me not do the CDs so I had to do those and of course the DVDs and then it was time for my break before anime.
During my break, though, Carol randomly appeared and gave me two gigantic slices of cake, which was awesome (triple chocolate cake and strawberry angel food cake ♥ ♥) especially as I hadn't brought anything to eat with me.

Sooo after that I went off to set up for anime.

Only to discover that there was a family event at 7:00.

Now, anime runs 6:30-8:00. This family event starts at 7:00. In the same place. Isn't there something wrong here? ¬_¬ And we couldn't use the boardroom like we usually do when there's stuff in the theater because there was a board meeting in there (fancy that).

Sooo I just put a "ANIME IS CANCELED" sign up and went home. Of course I wasn't at all hungry for dinner after all that cake... XD I did eat dinner in the end, I just waited a couple of hours.

I'm kind of glad I'm working first thing in the morning tomorrow so I can SHELVE LIKE THE WIND and also so nothing else can pile up in the meantime. I mean, it was nearly full again when I left and they still had three hours after that (come to think of it... when did I clock out? I might have left early without thinking about it... anime actually starts at 6:30 but I set up at 6:15, but my normal Thursday hours are 3:30-6:30).

So that is the state of affairs for tomorrow, Ali. XD

Oh, god, why did I ever insist that I could do anime night at work? The mere thought of it makes me want to cry. I want to go home at 6:30. Ali, when your quarter ends you are taking over. Hopefully I'll last until then.

I can't wait until I graduate. I swear I'm going to do nothing but sleep and sit around in my pajamas for days afterwards (well, and go to work, I suppose).
