Some explanation for the accordion:
When Grandad died, Dad found the accordion while cleaning out his closet. Apparently, he never knew Grandad even had an accordion. No idea if he knew how to play it, or anything about it at all (except, presumably, where he had gotten it). But the accordion ended up getting shoved back into the closet.
Some years later, it was revealed to me that there was an accordion in the closet. Of course, that was after Cliff had already moved into the apartment. Luckily, it was near the beginning of Cliff's animal collecting, when it was still somewhat possible to breathe in his room, and he hadn't quite managed to fill the closet with shit yet. So I rescued the accordion. However, the key to the case had been lost, and I broke the lock trying to get it open. After that, I gave up on it for a while, and it sat in the guest room or in the guest room closet.
Primarily because I've been listening to pretty much nothing but the Honey & Clover movie soundtrack every time I drive anywhere (specifically influenced by "Art-school-hood" on said soundtrack), my desire to actually play with the accordion has been steadily growing. Last night, I finally just gave in and pried the lock off the case with a screwdriver. So the accordion has been freed!
Now I just need to find someone to give me lessons...
In other news, having freed myself from the oppression of Comm Theory until the next test (or rather until I have to write my paper), I wandered over to the library for the first time this semester (well, technically the second, but the first time I was just studying so it doesn't count). I flipped through more sixties Glamour issues, but eventually I got a bit bored with that and decided to wander off to where the books on Japanese are. They have a small collection of (translated) Japanese contemporary fiction along with a whole lot of classical Japanese literature and books on the language. I left only with Japanese: A Comprehensive Grammar (which I may have to buy for myself, as it's got a lot of grammar points not covered in any of my other books that I do not fully understand yet), About Particles (which is full of things that I don't really think should be called particles, like "suki da" and various verb forms), and The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (with a translation into modern Japanese on one page and the English translation on the facing page, along with a lot of pretty kiri-e illustrations).
Folklore was cancelled today, so after Syntax I got to go home! Which means I also get to go to work early. I considered going in at 3:00 and working three and a half hours plus an hour and a half for anime night, and then only having to work two hours Saturday, but I'm just going to go in at four and only have three hours Saturday.
I really don't want to do anime tonight. Hopefully it'll be like last week and only two people will show up? XD Maybe I can just hide in the projection booth and play FF:T... ¬_¬ At least this is the last week I'll have to do it. If Ali wants to take a Thursday night class in the spring, there will just not be any anime.
Speaking of anime, I watched ep 8 of Honey & Clover today. The Twister scene almost killed me. Also I love Midori-chan. This show is great. I'm watching it very slowly so I can savor it, but each episode goes by so fast...
I also watched ep 9 of Baccano! finally. Damn was that ep bloody. Also lack of Isaac and Miria makes emu sad. :(
Arrgh I have a kanji quiz tomorrow! I shouldn't be so relaxed! I don't know a single kanji from this chapter!!
